My favorite supplements
My favorite supplements
For years I have been taking various natural supplements as supplements. Especially lately, I have been experimenting a lot to find out what is the best combination for me. I have had asthma from a very young age, which I suffer from mainly due to my allergies to dust mites, numerous animals and hay fever. I was also diagnosed with a spastic colon later in life, which causes me to react poorly to many foods. The supplements I am going to discuss today have helped me in a positive way to reduce both of these symptoms, Also, I generally feel fitter than ever! Please note that just taking a supplement will not have a significant effect on your lifestyle if you do not combine it with exercise and a healthy diet. In addition, every body is different. These are my experiences, so experiment for yourself and see what works for you!
Nac 600mg
NAC (N-Acetylcysteine): NAC is a powerful antioxidant that helps detoxify your body. Thus, it can help increase your energy by reducing free radical load and supporting the body’s recovery. It is also ideal for asthma and bronchitis symptoms. This is because NAC thins out the mucus in your body, making it easier to dispose of. Resulting in fewer symptoms.
My effect: Since I have been taking NAC 600mg I have noticed a huge difference in my asthma symptoms. Nowadays I use my puffer only 1/2 a week. I used to take my puffer 1-2 times a day. Although I do have to say that the reduction in symptoms comes with exercising more, eating less dairy (which causes mucus) and eating healthier in general. But all in all, NAC is really a no-brainer for me. Since taking NAC i.c.w. the next supplement is this list I feel much better.
Spirulina
Spirulina is a powerful superfood derived from blue-green algae, usually grown in freshwater lakes. These microalgae are extremely rich in essential nutrients, making them an excellent addition to your diet. Spirulina contains an impressive amount of vitamins, such as vitamin B12, vitamin K, and vitamin A, as well as important minerals such as iron, magnesium, and potassium. It is also a source of high-quality protein and amino acids, the building blocks of your body.
One of the main benefits of spirulina is its effect on your energy levels. Its richness in B vitamins and iron helps in the production of red blood cells and promotes oxygen uptake in the blood, which is essential for maintaining energy and stamina. In addition, spirulina has antioxidant properties, which help neutralize free radicals in the body and strengthen the immune system. This helps reduce inflammation and promote healthy cell function, which benefits your overall health.
All in all Spirulina is a no-brainer for basically anyone in my opinion. I do hear that some people get intestinal complaints from Spirulina. In that case, it often helps to eat the supplement with a meal. Also, these symptoms should go away after a week.
My effect: I personally take 3 tablets a day. The recommended dose is usually 3 to 6 tablets. I especially notice that I feel better overall. I have been smarting it for years and I am actually never sick anymore. Also, Spirulina really gives an energy boost. Spirulina is therefore the only supplement from this list that I have recommended to many people around me. For example, my parents, brother and several friends take it. Everyone is also positive about the effect.
Mushroom supplement
With this supplement, I have actually just started. I have been slipping it for barely 2 months now. The mushroom supplement I’m taking contains 6 different types of mushrooms from Asia in addition to ginger and turmeric. In fact, each capsule contains Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Shitake, Cordyceps, Oyster mushroom, Maitake, Chaga & Coprius. This powerful combo can help with a variety of things. Lion’s Mane is known for its positive impact on brain function, such as memory and concentration. Reishi helps strengthen the immune system and promotes relaxation. Shitake and Cordyceps support energy levels and improve overall vitality. Oyster mushroom and Maitake provide benefits for heart health and the immune system. Chaga is known for its powerful antioxidant effects, while Coprius contributes to gut flora health. Together, these mushrooms allow your body to function optimally, boosting both your physical and mental well-being.
My effect:
Personally, I notice that since taking this supplement, I have more energy, sleep better and can focus better. I also notice that I get up easier. I have never really been a morning person. Sometimes it can take 1 to 2 hours before I am really sharp. Since I have been taking this supplement, this has decreased a lot.
Bonus tips:
CBD oil
In addition to all the supplements discussed, I have also been taking CBD oil for some time. To be honest, I don’t notice very much from these drops. In fact, when I used to take a higher dose, I felt more tired than usual. Currently, I take about 2 drops 2x a day.
I take CBD oil pure because it helps keep the receptors in our bodies in a natural balance, which can help reduce mental and physical symptoms and improve your overall health. It also seems to be able to help with asthma symptoms, although I’m honestly not sure if my symptoms have decreased because of this, or because of NAC. Perhaps it is a combination of both.
In addition, many studies show that CBD and THC oil help prevent cancer and are often used during chemo. CBD also seems to help Parkinson’s patients tremendously.
My effect: So I personally don’t notice very much of it. I did notice in the beginning that I slept deeper. It also seems to be good for your asthma. But I didn’t notice much of that right away. Also because my asthma symptoms were already reduced when I started taking CBD oil.
Slow juicing, smoothies and nutrition
Besides supplements, there are obviously many other things you can do to stay healthy! In addition to exercising, I often take shots that I make with my slow juicer and occasionally have a smoothie.
While slowjuicing, make sure you still get enough fiber! This is because slow juicing removes the fiber from your fruits or vegetables. You can do this by eating nuts or seeds, or by still eating lots of fruits and vegetables loose.
Personally, I use fairly few fruits and vegetables in my slow juicer. I usually make a shot of ginger, turmeric, lemon, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper (not too much) and some water. I also add some Himalayan salt while taking it. Sometimes I also add a piece of fruit, but I try to eat as much fruit as possible in its own form.
Smoothies I personally take myself, only as a supplement should I get too little of them in a day. Or sometimes just because it tastes good.
